Zvi Mairovitch

Zvi Mairovich was born in 1911 in Poland. Mairovich moved to Berlin in 1929 and began to study painting with Karl Hoffer at the Academy of Art. Mairovich had to earn his living by designing posters for the UFA film company. In 1934 he immigrated to Israel and settled in Haifa. He continued working as a designer of posters for movies. In 1949-1950 he worked in Paris. His early figurative canvases featured a green-blue-brown chromatism, the subsequent abstract paintings were in brighter colors. From 1966 he worked on large sheets of paper with mixed media techniques. During his lifetime his work was seen mainly in group shows and several memorial exhibitions were held after his death in 1974.
